Liberty's Threshold
The modern worker exists in a paradox: politically free yet economically governed. We reject authoritarianism in our constitutions while submitting to it in our contracts, embracing democracy in theory whilst surrendering to dictatorship in practice. What use is the right to criticise your government if you can be dismissed for criticising your employer? The sovereignty we cherish as citizens evaporates at the workplace door, where we exchange autonomy for sustenance in a transaction we call voluntary only because the alternative is destitution.
